Becoming a Resident
If you or a loved one are considering joining the Nakile Home for Special Care community, we're here to support you every step of the way. Admissions are facilitated through Continuing Care, Nova Scotia Department of Health and Wellness. To begin your application or obtain more information, please contact Continuing Care at 1-800-225-7225.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants for admission to a nursing home in Nova Scotia must have a stable medical status. This means that while residents may have ongoing health conditions, their medical needs can be effectively managed within the nursing home setting.
Medical Care and Support
According to Nursing Home Medical Guidelines, a physician regularly visits the home. If medical needs arise between visits, our on-duty Registered Nurse (RN) will inform the physician, who will decide whether immediate attention is required or if it can wait until the next scheduled visit. In urgent situations, residents can be transferred to the Emergency Department at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Family members are welcome to accompany and assist in transferring residents to doctor's offices or other outside appointments as needed.
